The Word on The Street is a national celebration of literacy and Canadian writing. Every September, they host hundreds of readings from up-and-coming authors and a vibrant marketplace, featuring the best selection of books and magazines in Canada. And we are attending! We are going to have our very own booth for people to stop by and learn about us and our Humane Education advocacy, especially our Reading Buddies program! This program has become hugely popular over the years. Children build confidence in their reading skills while animals get more human interaction, making them more outgoing and increasing their chances of being adopted. But this is all just talk. Check out this amazing video from Word on the Street, featuring Sharon & Bram visiting our animals for a Reading Buddies session of their own!
If you love books and animals, you should come down to this year’s Word on the Street festival. You can meet Canada’s biggest authors, find that book you never knew you needed, and chat with us about our animals and our educational programs.
We will be at booth #KS36, right next to the pond (you can view the festival map here). You can find out more about the event here.
